Direk Romm joins popular celebrities as FDCP Film Ambassadors 2020


Multi-awarded film director Romm Burlat has been honored as Film Ambassador 2020 by the Film Development Council of the Philippines for bringing honor to the Philippine movie industry. He won as Best Director at the 16th We Care International Film Festival in New Delhi, India. This festival is a joint project of UNESCO and the Brotherhood of India. The film that won for him was Ama Ka Ng Anak Mo (Father of Your Son) which tells about an autistic adult played by Bidaman Ron Macapagal who was abandoned by his father but despite that, he was the reason for putting his family back together.

The A-Lister of the honorees include Judy Ann Santos (Best Actress for Mindanao, 41st Cairo Film Festival), Jun Robles Lana (Best Director, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival) and films like Aswang (FIPRESCI Prize, International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam), Mindanao (Best Artistic Contribution, 41st Cairo International Film Festival and NETPAC Award at the 2nd Hainan Island International Film Festival in China and special Jury Award at the 76th Venice Film Festival in Italy). Other celebrity awardees include Ogie Alcasid (Best Actor for Kuya Wes), Ina Raymundo (Best Actress for Kuya Wes), Dante Rivero (Best Actor for Hintayin sa Langit), Maja Salvador (Best Actress for Wildflower), Bea Alonzo for her "Asian Stars Up Next Award", Max Eigenmanm for her performance in "Verdict" (Chito Rono) and critically-acclaimed films Signal Rock and Balingiga: Howling Wilderness (Khavn Dela Cruz). Posthumous awards were given to the late Kristoffer King (Best Actor for Kristo), the late Eddie Garcia and Tony Mabesa for "Rainbow's Sunset". But the major awards for the night billed as "Camera Obscura" for outstanding representatives of the film industry went to Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina as the highest grossing Filipino Film Director; film historian and scholar Nick Deocampo for his remarkable accomplishments in the Philippine cinema as a vanguard of Philippine film history and award-winning scriptwriter and mentor Ricky Lee for his exemplary accomplishments in Philippine cinema as a screenwriter and dedicated mentor to the next generation of of scriptwriters.

Headed by Deputy Secretary and Film Development Council of the Philippines Chair, Liza Dino-Seguerra, the the Film Ambassadors Awards Night was held at Maybank Auditorium on February 9, 2020.
