It can be recalled that Direk Romm won a Best Director statute in the 16th version of the festival which was held in New Delhi, India. For this reason, he was honored by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) as Film Ambassador for 2020 for a distinctive feat which was awarded on February 9, 2020 at the Maybank Auditorium in BGC.
The We Care International Film Festival is a joint project of the United Nation's UNESCO and the Brotherhood of India headed by the Founding Festival Director Satish Kapoor who has been the festival director for 16 years. This film festival is held annually to raise awareness about disability issues, dispel misconceptions and prejudices about persons with disabilities and drive attitudinal and behavioral change. Since 2003, it has traveled to over 190 venues in India and other countries. This year, the selected short films, documentaries and feature films will also be screened in the Philippines, France, Iran, Oman, UAE and other Asian and European countries.
There are three categories of the festival: up to 5-min film, up to 30-minute film and up to 90-minute film. A preview committee will select the final films to be screened. The deadline for submission is on September 5, 2020. The organizers encourage all filmmakers all over the world to produce audio-visual content which complies with all accessibility standards and guidelines. To be considered for screening at the 17th edition of the film festival, all films should contain caption and subtitles in English.
Last year, there were 113 participating countries where the Philippines' Romm Burlat won Best Director for his work in Father of Your Son (Ama Ka Ng Anak Mo)
What makes the festival exciting is that the organizers will also award local films produced by Star Cinema, Viva Films, Regal Films, GMA Films and other independent producers.
